Solidarity with Santa Cruz (en)

Call for international solidarity with Santa Cruz!

The Corona Crisis and the restrictions it has brought with it affect us very differently. Although everyone may be equally endangered at first, all the restrictions imposed are not socially just. While Prince Charles drives to his estate in Scotland, most people are afraid of what will happen next.

Even though many people in Germany are worried about their small businesses, fees are not paid, short-time compensation is not enough for life and our holidays fall through, there are a few programs that serve parts of the population, even if going to the employment agency is not a nice thing to do.

At the same time in Bolivia a strict curfew was imposed. Only once a week, according to the last number on their identity card, people are allowed to go out on the street until 12 noon to make the most necessary supplies. However, many people live from their daily sales at the markets and suffer greatly from the restrictions. Most people do not have a fixed income, but have small monthly loans to service. Many incomes have disappeared, and even in the shops many people buy less. It is a spiral that has already led to malnutrition for the first people and is still increasing. The situation is getting worse every day. The police and the public order office are highly corrupt and provide for themselves through confiscations from the poor street vendors.

The Bolivian government pays once 500 Bolivianos (64 Euros) to each household, which is too little in view of the crisis, but especially for people in the countryside, without bus traffic and partly without reading skills or access to the Internet is virtually impossible. In the end, the more affluent people in the inner cities benefit the most and can afford private hospitals in case of doubt.

(One of countless posts on social networks: She is Maria Gladys, a single mother with her children who have nothing to eat. This poor family could not get economic help. She is an example for thousands of families who are suffering).

We are Chachi and Martin, a couple with roots in Bolivia and Germany. We want to become active. Our Bolivian family lives in the big city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra in the outer districts, where there are many very poor people. We have the possibility to get and distribute food, but also for us the income is gone. Let us show solidarity in a very practical way! We collect money in prosperous Germany, from which we then buy food in Santa Cruz. The local people know best what is needed where. Since the exit restrictions do not allow it, we cannot offer a „kitchen for everyone“, because then only those who are allowed to go out on that day can come.

We would like to put together packages of a variety of food, enough for one household and for one week. The packages will then be prepared by us and distributed directly to the most needy with the support of people from the affected neighbourhoods. A tailor from the neighbourhood will sew reusable bags in which we will put the food and equip each bag with a reusable mouth and nose mask. We would also like to include some hygiene items like soap and toothpaste.

The campaign is intended to redistribute money to places where it is currently much more needed. It is a one-time action. Since the exchange rate is in favour of the Euro, even small amounts can help a lot.

Dear friends and family,

the Corona crisis and the measures against it are not socially just! While it may be possible to infect everyone at first, people are already suffering from it in very different ways. Here there is the possibility to help very directly and in solidarity poorer people in Bolivia. Go to notasdelsur.blackblogs.org and help out!

Thanks a lot!
